Tween Tuesday was started by GreenBeanTeenQueen. In it we share books that would be great for the tween set, ages 9-12.
This week I'm sharing:
Wait Till Helen Comes
by Mary Downing Hahn
Every students I have that has ever read this book has loved it! They all talk about how creepy it is. What I love is that they get so excited about it and enjoy it so much that they go on to read more books by Mary Downing Hahn. I could do a whole feature on her as an author (mmmmmm thoughts for later!) because of how much my students love her books. If you're looking for a good book for a reluctant reader, I suggest you try this one!
From Barnes and Noble
Twelve-year-old Molly and her ten-year-old brother, Michael, have never liked their younger stepsister, Heather. Ever since their parents got married, she's made Molly and Michael's life miserable. Now their parents have moved them all to the country to live in a house that used to be a church, with a cemetery in the backyard.
If that's not bad enough, Heather starts talking to a ghost named Helen and warning Molly and Michael that Helen is coming for them. Molly feels certain Heather is in some kind of danger, but every time she tries to help, Heather twists things around to get her into trouble. It seems as if things can't get any worse.
But they do — when Helen comes.
I have not heard of this book, but it does sound like a story that would interest many of my students. Thanks for the wonderful review, I will be looking for it to add to my library.
ReplyDeleteI first read Wait Till Helen Comes over 10 years ago and I still love it!!

ReplyDeleteWhoa, that is creepy. The cover is great for it!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a convincing review. I am off to Amazon! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy students and I LOVE Mary Downing Hahn and everything she has ever written. We seriously have a fan club. I love that you are highlighting her book, Wait Till Helen Comes, on your blog! I cannot say enough good things about her books and the power they have to hook readers.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this book when I was in junior high. It was definitely my go to creepy book, even though mine had a horrible 80s cover. This cover goes so much better with the story!
ReplyDeleteI used to LOVE this book when I was in middle school! I will totally get a copy for my kids some day!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this one, but now I'm intrigued. I'm adding it to my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteLate to the post on this...but wanted to say yay for all the kids loving this one! One of my all time favourite reads and book talks!
