Book Trailer: Nightmares by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller

Title: Nightmares
Authors: Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller

Book Summar
Sleeping has never been so scary. And now waking up is even worse!

Charlie Laird has several problems.
  1. His dad married a woman he is sure moonlights as a witch.
  2. He had to move into her purple mansion, which is NOT a place you want to find yourself after dark.
  3. He can’t remember the last time sleeping wasn’t a nightmarish prospect. Like even a nap.
What Charlie doesn’t know is that his problems are about to get a whole lot more real. Nightmares can ruin a good night’s sleep, but when they start slipping out of your dreams and into the waking world—that’s a line that should never be crossed.

And when your worst nightmares start to come true . . . well, that’s something only Charlie can face. And he’s going to need all the help he can get, or it might just be lights-out for Charlie Laird. For good.

Book Trailer: The Clean Getaway by Nic Stone

I love book trailers!

They are a great way to get introduced to a new book or series.

Check out this one!

The Clean Getaway by Nic Stone

How to Go on an Unplanned Road Trip with Your Grandma:
* Grab a Suitcase: Prepacked from the big spring break trip that got CANCELLED.
* Fasten Your Seatbelt: G'ma's never conventional, so this trip won't be either.
* Use the Green Book: G'ma's most treasured possession. It holds, history, memories, and most important, the way home.

What Not to Bring:
* A Cell Phone: Avoid contact with Dad at all costs. Even when G'ma starts acting stranger than usual.

Set against the backdrop of the segregation history of the American South, take a trip with New York Times bestselling Nic Stone and an eleven-year-old boy who is about to discover the world hasn't always been a welcoming place for kids like him, and things aren't always what they seem--his G'ma included.

Although this is a middle grade and Dear Martin was young adult, I think many kids who loved Dear Martin will give this one a try. It sounds really good!

PRESS PLAY
Author: Erid Devine

Greg Dunsmore, a.k.a. Dun the Ton, is focused on one thing: making a documentary that will guarantee his admission into the film school of his choice. Every day, Greg films his intense weight-loss focused workouts as well as the nonstop bullying that comes from his classmates. But when he captures footage of violent, extreme hazing by his high school’s championship-winning lacrosse team in the presence of his principal, Greg’s field of view is in for a readjustment.

Greg knows there is a story to be told, but it is not clear exactly what. And his attempts to find out the truth only create more obstacles, not to mention physical harm upon himself. Yet if Greg wants to make his exposé his ticket out of town rather than a veritable death sentence, he will have to learn to play the game and find a team to help him.

Combine the underbelly of Friday Night Lights with the unflinching honesty of Walter Dean Myers, and you will find yourself with Eric Devine’s novel of debatable truths, consequences, and realities.

52 Reasons to Hate My Father Trailer +GIVEAWAY

Today I'm very excited to share a great sounding new book out by Jessica Brody:
52 Reasons to Hate My Father.

Being America’s favorite heiress is a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.
Lexington Larrabee has never to work a day in her life. After all, she’s the heiress to the multi-billion-dollar Larrabee Media empire. And heiresses are not supposed to work. But then again, they’re not supposed to crash brand new Mercedes convertibles into convenience stores on Sunset Blvd either.
Which is why, on Lexi’s eighteenth birthday, her ever-absent, tycoon father decides to take a more proactive approach to her wayward life. Every week for the next year, she will have to take on a different low-wage job if she ever wants to receive her beloved trust fund. But if there’s anything worse than working as a maid, a dishwasher, and a fast-food restaurant employee, it’s dealing with Luke, the arrogant, albeit moderately attractive, college intern her father has assigned to keep tabs on her.
In a hilarious “comedy of heiress” about family, forgiveness, good intentions, and best of all, second chances, Lexi learns that love can be unconditional, money can be immaterial, and, regardless of age, everyone needs a little saving. And although she might have 52 reasons to hate her father, she only needs one reason to love him.

Doesn't it sound great!!??!!!!

Now check out the Hollywood style trailer (the book has been optioned for a film!)

PLUS, right now until August 15, Jessica is doing a REALLY cool giveaway!

The winner gets a Complete Heiress Make-Over which includes a personal wardrobe styling session with a professional costume designer (the same one who dressed Lexington in the book trailer!), as well as a gift card to Sephora, a free copy of the book, and lots of other cool goodies fit for an heiress!) All These Things I've Done Trailer +GIVEAWAY

I saw All These Things I've Done back a bit, and I remember that it had me interested.  Just recently I took a closer look at it, and now I'm super curious about it.  The cool part - I shared the summary with my 12 year old daughter, and she wanted to read it now!

Interested?  Here's the summary

"In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty.think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight--at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family."

Gabrielle Zevin introduces readers to an unforgettable teenage heroine in a groundbreaking new series, starting with "All These Things I've Done".

What got my daughter was the fact that chocolate was illegal! She literally sputtered, "but, but, but ... chocolate!".  If that's any indication of how other kids will react to it, it's gonna sell.

Book Trailer: Hades by Alexandra Adornetto

Hey all - I love book trailers because they really do hook some of my reluctant readers in.  Well today I have the books trailer for Hades the sequel to Halo by Alexandra Adornetto.

Check it out!

Here's a bit about the book:

Heaven Help Her.

Bethany Church is an angel sent to Earth to keep dark forces at bay. Falling in love was never part of her mission, but the bond between Beth and her mortal boyfriend, Xavier Woods, is undeniably strong. But even Xavier's love, and the care of her archangel siblings, Gabriel and Ivy, can't keep Beth from being tricked into a motorcycle ride that ends up in Hell. There, the demon Jake Thorn bargains for Beth's release back to Earth. But what he asks of her will destroy her, and quite possibly, her loved ones, as well.

The story that Alexandra Adornetto built in her bestselling debut, Halo, comes alive in action-packed and unexpected ways, as angels battle demons, and the power of love is put to the test.

Enclave Book Trailer of Awesomeness!

Ok so I've been seeing the book Enclave around on different blog but honestly didn't give it much thought.  Then I watched the trailer! Now I'm super interested in it!!! I'll be sharing it with my students as well, and I think it will definitely get their attention!

See for yourself

And if you don't know what it's about here's a summary

Ann Aguirre, author of the Corine Solomon Series & the Sirantha Jax Series, releases her first -ever Young Adult dystopian novel, 'Enclave':

"New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known."

Find out more about 'Enclave' here, including the first two chapters, the book cover and an interview with the author!

Some New Book Trailers for Your Friday

I thought I'd share a few new book trailers with you today.  I love book trailers.  At work I do "Trailer Tuesday" with my students.  I've found that I'll hook some of the kids with a book talk, but I'll hook even more if  show them a well done trailer.  Anything that gets my students interested in reading is a-ok in my book :)

The first is for the the book Halo by Alexandra Adornetto.
This book sounds fantastic, and I love that the author was first published at 14.  My students will think that's the coolest thing. This will be one of the first trailers I show this year.

The second is for the book Radiance by Alyson Noel.
I've had several students read her Immortal series, so I know they'll be excited for this one.

Here is a bit about Radiance
Riley has crossed the bridge into the afterlife—a place called Here, where time is always Now. She has picked up life where she left off when she was alive, living with her parents and dog in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. When she’s summoned before The Council, she learns that the afterlife isn’t just an eternity of leisure. She’s been assigned a job, Soul Catcher, and a teacher, Bodhi, a possibly cute, seemingly nerdy boy who’s definitely hiding something. They return to earth together for Riley’s first assignment, a Radiant Boy who’s been haunting a castle in England for centuries. Many Soul Catchers have tried to get him to cross the bridge and failed. But all of that was before he met Riley . . .
