Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn
One student wrote it down, and it had multiple arrows pointing to it saying "I agree". I haven't read this one, but I'm thinking I need to listen to my 7th graders and read it!
Other books they listed were:
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz
The Old Willis Place also by Mary Downing Hahn
Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan
Barney Goes to Halloween Town and There's a Monster at the End of This Book - both from when they were little
The Shining by Stephen King
Goosebump Series by R.L. Stine
O The Shining scares me. I'm a major chicken.
ReplyDeleteWait Till Helen Comes even *looks* scary. Never heard of it before, but I actually think I want to read it without knowing the premise. I'm off to find out more about it now!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. I read this one years ago (probably around the time I was in grade 7!). But it didn't have such a gorgeous cover at that time. In fact, the cover was pretty giggle-worthy (you can see it in all its cheesy glory here.
ReplyDeleteI LOvE The Monster at the End of This Book, my grandparents used to keep it at their house and I remember always coming over to read it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also love the Scary Stories.
Jill, you rock for bringing back some lovely childhood memories :-)
Great list! I've never read any Hahn yet, but have heard so many good things about her books! The Goosebumps books were childhood favorites of mine; I just read The Shining last summer. It was creepy and good :)
ReplyDeleteWhat about The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright? That spooked me about as much as Wait Till Helen Comes. I've always been a wuss. :)
