Waiting (to read) on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event spotlighting upcoming releases we are highly anticipating. It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. I like to put a twist on this idea and also look at what books I'm waiting to read but haven't gotten to yet.

So I'm at the start of my Holiday Break Reading Challenge.  You can see my post on what I'm doing for the challenge here.  The next book on my list is one I've been waiting to read.  That would be:

The Line by Teri Hall
Release date: March 2, 2010
From Goodreads:
An invisible, uncrossable physical barrier encloses the Unified States. The Line is the part of the border that lopped off part of the country, dooming the inhabitants to an unknown fate when the enemy used a banned weapon. It’s said that bizarre creatures and superhumans live on the other side, in Away. Nobody except tough old Ms. Moore would ever live next to the Line.

Nobody but Rachel and her mother, who went to live there after Rachel’s dad died in the last war. It’s a safe, quiet life. Until Rachel finds a mysterious recorded message that can only have come from Away. The voice is asking for help.
Who sent the message? Why is her mother so protective? And to what lengths is Rachel willing to go in order to do what she thinks is right?

I saw this one at least a month ago on another blogger's site and thought it sounded fantastic.  The cover really gets me as well.  The sparsity of it really draws me in.  I was lucky enough to be offered a copy by Teri herself! This will be my next read and I can't wait to get started!

  1. Sounds nice and indeed the cover is great. I would def. pick this up if i saw it on a bookshelf in a bookstore. :)

  2. Jill, I just finished it last night and it was fantastic (though it left me salivating for the sequel...!).

  3. This sounds really good - I'll be on the lookout for it.

  4. I so almost chose this book for my Waiting on Wednesday. It sounds so good and I can't wait for it to be released! Great pick!
