Top Ten Tuesday - Books I'm Not Sure I Want to Read

Top Books I'm Not Sure I Want To Read (books you may have bought but aren't sure if you are into it anymore, books you wanted to read but heard mixed things about, hyped books you aren't sure about --- basically any book that has you going, "TO READ OR NOT TO READ?"

The Selection by Kiera Cass.  A ton of my students have told me to read this.  I just don't know if I want to.

Allegiant by Veronica Roth.  I've read the other two.  I know what happens.  Do I want to read it??????

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.  I have it on my Nook, and I've heard tons and tons of great stuff about it.  But I believe it's high fantasy, and I struggle with that!

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.  I know! I know! I just don't know if I want to read it.  I get very emotionally involved in book, so this one could be tough.

The rest of the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi.  I liked the first book in the series.  I just don't know if I want to finish it.

There are more (many more!).  But those are the first ones I thought of.

  1. I struggle with high fantasy too, but I was told this series is actually one to try if you're fairly new to fantasy. This and the Throne of Glass series! I think we should both give it a shot!

  2. I'm with you on the Selection! And I knew what happened in Allegiant before I read it too. Basically, if you're a fan of the series, read it. Since you know how it ends, you have time to digest and prepare for it and you'll probably end up a lot less angry than the fans who read it and got the shock of their lives. Good luck! :)

  3. Grh. The same thing happened with me with Allegiant. I now just don't have the heart to read it. So now it's just sitting on my bookshelf being pretty.
Also, The Selection series needs a very open mind to enjoy. You can't go into it thinking it's going to blow you away because it's not. It's addictive though like PLL addictive.

  4. I'm undecided about the Selection, too. Some people loved it, but it also received a lot of really negative reviews.

  5. Read the rest of the Shatter Me trilogy. And read Shadow and Bone. Even some who don't like high fantasy like this series. You have to at least TRY it. If you know what happens in Allegiant, than don't bother. That book made me pretty angry. Speak is emotional but I think it's worth reading. It has been YEARS since I read it though and barely remember it. I don't think I'd bother with the Selection, I haven't had a strong urge to read it myself. :)

  6. I'm very picky about what books are given my time. I read a lot about them before I get them. Since I get most of my books for reviewing them, if I take them on, I really need to read them all the way through. The good news is I'm seldom disappointed. I don't read much fantasy, so can't comment on that. I thought Speak was well worth my time. The others on your list, I know nothing about. I sure wouldn't waste my time on a book if I already know what's going to happen unless it's history.

  7. I'm betting you'll get a lot of people saying not to read Allegiant...and I know the ending is super controversial but but but I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I thought it was perfect and just...omg, very awesome and feels destroying.
I liked Shadow & Bone a lot! It was a bit of a worry-book for me too, but then it was perfect and the hype was right. ;) I haven't read the rest of the series though. I didn't really like Shatter Me but I LOVED LOVED Ignite Me. Book #2 was okay as well, but omg, Ignite Me was fantastic.

  8. Shadow and bone is very good. I think it's even a very good book for people who normally don't read/enjoy high fantasy :) There is a good world-building and interesting characters, I still think you should give it a shot.

Shatter me also made it to my list this week!

  9. The Selection is a fun and light hearted series, it isn't without its flaws but its a nice easy read :)

Shadow and Bone was one of the first high fantasy series I read, and I lost myself in it. I think you should give it a go, nothing ventured nothing gained as they say :)

Shatter Me, is a seirres again I think you should give a go, if you've read the first one and like it then the other two are better so thats promising at least haha

  10. I can understand about Speak. It's not an easy read emotionally. But, it's a great book to help those who are or who have gone through rape/sexual abuse to know they're not alone. It really helped me.

I'm with you on Allegiant. But, I'm also there on Insurgent. I liked Divergent enough, but I've heard so many mixed reviews about the other two, I'm just not sure. I probably will, though.
