Cover Crush: The Pledge

I love book covers.  Book covers draw me to a book.  I've been known to find a book with I cover I love and pick it up and show it to everyone.  I do get cover crushes.

Well today I'm crushing on:

The Pledge
by Kimberly Derting

I just love this cover! It's bleak yet eye catching.  The darkness contrasted with the face of the girl is so striking.  I cannot wait to see this one in person!

About the book
Words are the most dangerous weapon of all...

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she’s spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can’t be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country’s only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.

Countdown Widget
I don't normally add countdown widgets to my blog, but I'm adding the one for The Pledge (hey it lets me see the cover more!) If you'd like to add it too go HERE to get the code.

Cover Crush was partially inspired by The Book Worms Cover Crazy posts.

  3. I like the mystery this cover holds, without being able to see the full face of the girl I get the feeling she's hiding something from me.

I also like how the capital letters of the word "PLEDGE" are faded into the background of this image. Great choice!

  4. I adore, ADORE this cover! Can't wait to read this book! This cover grabs me on so many levels...

Last week, my CC was for ANATHEMA and OUBLIETTE by Megg Jensen, which also have a hooded girl and remind me a bit of this cover, but I like all three!
