7th Grade Saturday - What They're Reading

I haven't done this in a while, so I thought it was time.  I like to share what my students are reading. This allows me to focus on what's really going on in the reading life of 7th graders. Hint hint - any publisher or authors reading, this is what 7th graders are REALLY reading not what I, the teacher, WANT them to read :) Let's get started on this week's addition!

Dead is a State of Mind by Marlene Perez
That Summer by Sarah Dessen
Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson
Gone by Michael Grant
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Pendragon The Quillian Games by D.J. MacHale
Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Blood Promise by Richelle Mead
Pretties by Scott Westerfeld
Revelations by Melissa de la Cruz
Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz

  2. Smart 7th graders, because they're reading some great books! Ah, I haven't read The Outsiders since I was in seventh grade! ;)

  3. Funny, I'm in 7th grade right now! I didn't get held back, I was born after the cut-off date for school, sooo yeah :D
Catalyst was in my school book fair too!

  4. In addition to publishers, this list is also really helpful for school librarians (or soon to be librarians.) I'm mentally filing these posts away for future use :)

  5. What an awesome idea for a post! This will help me recommend some books to my students. The Hunger Games is super popular with kids right now, eh? There has been a waiting list in my room for my copy for two years so I went out an bought a few more.

  6. Those might not be what you want them to read, but I'd say it's a fairly good list. (It reminds me of what I was reading in seventh grade, most definitely.)

  7. Yay Blood Promise, and double yay for The Outsiders (I have that edition). Awesome to see your students have such cool taste. :-)

  8. That's awesome! They have great taste if I do say so myself. ;)

I just think it's fantastic that kids are taking advantage of YA novels. When I was younger I pretty much jumped from little kid books to the adult section.

I remember finding the YA section by accident and falling in love. I think that's why so many young kids dislike reading, because they've never found a book they can really relate to.

  9. I love when you do this feature -- it's so intersting to see what your middle school students are reading compared to mine!
