What ya Readin'? Nov 10

In What ya Readin' Wednesday I share what my students are reading. This allows me to focus on what's really going on in the reading life of 7th graders. Hint hint - any publisher or authors reading, this is what 7th graders are REALLY reading not what I, the teacher, WANT them to read :) Let's get started on this week's addition!

The Host by Stephenie Meyer
I thought I heard the movie rights had be bought and there was a sequel coming out.  Anyone know if that's right?

Models Don't Eat Chocolate Cookies by Erin Dionne

Holes by Louis Sachar
This is a classic favorite that I have to read!

The Lab by Jack Heath

Loser by Jerry Spinelli
I read this aloud to my students a few time.  Nice story.
Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

The Singer of All Songs by Kate Constable
I hadn't heard of this one before.

Smiles to Go by Jerry Spinelli
I'm curious to hear what my students have to say about this one.

Bran Hambric by Kaleb Nation

Gym Candy by Carl Deuker
Crackback by John Coy
These last two deal with sports and the push to be better than you are.

And my most favorite that I just ordered from The Book Depository.  Flawed Dogs The Novel: The Shocking Raid on Westminster by Berkeley Breathed.  I put a picture of the cover below.  Just look at it! Look at his leg - one of them is a soup ladle! I can't wait until this one comes, so I can read it.  The girl who is reading it says it's really good, and the illustrations are awesome.

  1. I love that cover. And I don't think it is definite on a sequel for The Host. Meyers has mentioned it, but nothing definite.
I liked Smiles to Go. I'm curious what your student thinks.

  2. I was planning a post like this and after I saw yours it gave me the push I needed to do it! I am going to get Gym Candy for my son.
